A launch ceremony of the program is held on Tuesday.

About 200 high school and university students and young people from Shanghai will spend 10 days in the next two months in some underdeveloped areas of China with local left-behind children, the organizer of the program, Shanghai Youth League, said on Tuesday.

This year's program was built on the success of last summer when 120 students from Xuhui District spent their time in five village schools in Yuanyang County, Honghe Prefecture of the southwestern Province of Yunnan.

This time, besides Yuanyang, the students will also go to Luoping, Jinping and Dali in Yunnan and Zunyi City in Guizhou Province.

During their stay, the students will teach the school children how to keep themselves safe and how to stay positive as well as English and sports.

In many underdeveloped regions of China, there are many children who are left behind by their parents who go to work in cities to make more money for the family.

Before the students embark on their way, they have been given a systematic training on teaching methods, first-aid help and also skills to create short videos.

Many of the students are experienced volunteers with over 50 service hours.

As part of the program, the students will raise money to buy books for the children they will meet by holding charity fairs and performing in the city's parks and at the entrances to the Metro stations.
